Lilium martagon

Purple Martagon Lily

USDA Zone: 2-9

Plant number: 1.319.710

Also known as Turk's-Cap Lily, this species produces many small pendulous flowers with dusky purplish-red petals in early to mid summer. Leaves are arranged in tiers or whorls along the tall stems. The flower petals curve backwards, giving each bloom an exotic turban-like appearance. This species tolerates shade or sun and prefers rich soil with excellent drainage. Slow to increase but clumps may be left undisturbed for many years. Allow stems and leaves to ripen and turn yellow after the flowers are finished. Flowers smell pleasantly fragrant to some, rank and unpleasant to others.
