Leaves are arranged in tiers or whorls along the tall stems. The flower petals curve backwards, giving each bloom an exotic turban-like appearance. This species tolerates shade or sun and prefers rich soil with excellent drainage. Slow to increase but clumps may be left undisturbed for many years.
