Rumex sanguineus var. sanguineus

Ornamental Sorrel

USDA Zone: 4-9

Plant number: 1.456.250

Also known as Bloody Dock. A unique foliage perennial that makes an unusual accent plant in the border. Plants form a low clump of large spinach-like leaves, dark green with a deep beet-red pattern of veins, particularly during the cooler months. Spikes of greenish flowers appear in early summer, but are not particularly attractive. Plants benefit from a hard clipping back after blooming, to rejuvenate the foliage. Also useful in mixed containers or window boxes. Plants will self seed. Clumps may be easily divided in early spring.
