Hosta ‘Empress Wu’

Hosta

USDA Zone: 2-9

Plant number: 1.700.560

Hosta are among the most popular of perennials for shady areas due to their versatility, with literally hundreds of varieties now readily available. They form sturdy mounds of foliage, topped with lily-like blooms. This HUGE selection will create an amazing focal point in the shade garden. The very large, thick leaves are dark green with deep veining and can measure up to 45cm (18") wide and long. Strong upright habit, forming a very tall and wide clump. In midsummer, pale reddish-violet flowers are held just above the foliage and may attract hummingbirds. Outstanding specimen. Leaves with substance should provide good slug resistance. Hosta go completely dormant in fall, and the dying foliage can be removed any time before mid-spring. Easily divided in either spring or fall, but the plants may be left alone for years. While deer enjoy eating Hosta, this variety may be slightly less palatable to deer than others. USPP#20774: unlicensed propagation prohibited.
