Sierra Shooting Star is a western native wildflower. Plants form a low rosette of rounded leaves, bearing taller stems of rose-purple flowers with a yellow centre. Petals flare back, giving each blossom a star-like or cyclamen appearance. Prefers a moist to wet site and neutral to acidic soil. These will usually go completely dormant and disappear by mid summer, so mark well and do not disturb. Plants may be divided as they go dormant, or in early spring. Tolerates constantly moist conditions, such as beside a stream or pond.
