Chasmanthium latifolium ‘River Mist’

Variegated Sea Oats

USDA Zone: 5-9

Plant number: 8.100.260

The first variegated selection of Northern Sea Oats, this was recently discovered at a nursery in Georgia. It forms a medium-tall clump of narrow bamboo-like leaves striped lengthwise with bright green and creamy white. Spikes of dangling oat-like flower heads later become copper seed heads that stay attractive well into the winter. Useful both as a fresh or dried cutflower. A great specimen plant that brightens up any shaded area and combines well with ferns and hosta. The showy variegation is best seen towards the front of a border in either a sunny or shady location. Deserves to be much more widely used, tolerating a wide range of light and soil conditions, but happiest in moist soil with dappled shade. Native to southeastern North America. Selected and introduced by Itsaul Plants in 2009. USPP#20643: unlicensed propagation prohibited.
