Athyrium niponicum ‘Red Beauty’
Japanese Painted Fern |
USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Plant number: 9.015.180
This relative of the Japanese Painted Fern has a broad habit with attractive, arching triangular fronds of silvery-green. Contrasting stems and veins are bright, burgundy-red with the intense colour perhaps taking up to 3 years to develop. Makes an excellent groundcover for moist shady sites. Nice addition to mixed containers or indoor arrangements. Vigorous grower. Upright fronds do not turn green in hot summer weather and have a slightly spicy fragrance. Deciduous. Easily divided in spring. Leaves may be trimmed to the ground in late fall or early spring. Well-behaved, non-spreading habit.
