Polystichum makinoi

Makino’s Holly Fern

USDA Zone: 5-9

Plant number: 9.050.140

A medium to large-sized fern, this evergreen species performs well in a wide range of climate regions. It forms a tidy non-spreading mound of arching, triangular fronds that are dark green and glossy. Ideal for use as a woodland specimen or for massing as a groundcover. Somewhat stately and formal in appearance. Trim back the old fronds in late winter or spring. Prefers a rich soil that remains evenly moist. Native to China and Japan. Tolerates hot and humid summers well.
