Hibiscus Summerific™ ‘Summer Storm’

Hardy Hibiscus

USDA Zone: 4-9

Plant number: 1.270.340

The hardy forms of Hibiscus are valued for their showy late summer display of enormous satiny blooms. These flower best in areas with long, hot summers. This new selection forms an upright, bushy mound of dark wine-purple, maple-like foliage which in itself makes a fabulous addition to a sunny border. Reported to be an improvement over H. ‘Kopper King’. In midsummer, marvel at the added benefit of huge pink flowers with rose veining and magenta eye, lasting into early fall. Longer blooming than other varieties. The number of lobes on each leaf increases as the foliage matures. Requires direct sunlight to develop the dark foliage. Attractive to hummingbirds. Dies back completely to the ground in winter. New growth is slow to appear in spring, so be patient. Best to mulch well for the first winter, especially in Zones 4 and 5. Introduced by Walters Gardens, Inc. of Michigan. USPP#20443: unlicensed propagation prohibited. CPBRAF.
