PerennialHeritage Perennial Profile

Here's the complete description for this Heritage Perennial. Drop in any time to see the rest of our collection.

 Plant Number: 1.075.050USDA Zone: 1 - 9
Artemisia schmidtiana ‘Nana’
Common name :  Silver Mound Artemisia
Certainly one of the most popular of foliage perennials, this forms a low cushion of ferny, silvery-grey leaves. In areas with humid summers, Silver Mound benefits from a hard clipping just as the tiny silver ball-like flowers appear, usually in mid to late June. Plants will regrow quickly and remain attractive all season long. Good for hot, dry sites. Nice edging plant, also combines well with other perennials in tubs or mixed containers. Divide every two to three years (in spring or fall) in order to maintain good vigour.

What others say about this plant...
This noninvasive artemisia forms a perfect dome of densely cut, silvery gray, silky-haired leaves with insignificant flowers. Popular in cool-summer areas, it's not nearly as well adapted to hot areas. To prevent plants from falling open from the center in midsummer, prune the plant back to about 2 inches high in early summer.; Larry Hodgson, Perennials for Every Purpose
