Dianthus ‘Starburst’
Border Pinks |
USDA Zone: 5-9 |
Plant number: 1.181.420
Border Pinks have been popular in gardens for centuries. This selection produces large, semi-double, frilly, cherry-red flowers splashed with white. The flowers are held erect on long, upright stems over a compact mound of blue-green, grassy foliage. Flowers have a spicy fragrance. Attractive to butterflies. Great cut flower. Excellent for edging, in rock gardens and containers. Deadhead regularly to encourage more buds to form. The flower petals of all types of Dianthus are edible. Plants require good drainage and are an excellent choice for hot dry sites or gravelly soils. Combines beautifully with other alpine plants. Evergreen. USPP#21162: unlicensed propagation prohibited.
