Dryopteris affinis The King

Golden-scaled Male Fern

USDA Zone: 4-9

Plant number: 9.030.330

(='Cristata') This fern has been in gardens since Victorian times. It forms a medium to large-sized clump of arching, deep-green fronds, each leaflet “crested” or divided at the tips. Plants are clumping in habit, and well suited to use in any moist, shady situation. Also useful in tubs or mixed containers, combining beautifully with other shade-loving plants, such as Hostas or Hellebores. Semi-evergreen in mild winter regions, but the old fronds should be trimmed off in spring. Mulch around the plants with dead leaves in the fall, to help conserve moisture in summer.
