Panicum virgatum ‘Heavy Metal’

Blue Switch Grass

USDA Zone: 4-9

Plant number: 8.290.200

Switch Grass was an important component of the Tall-grass Prairie that once covered much of the Great Plains. This outstanding selection forms a stiffly upright clump of powdery-blue leaves, bearing airy heads of tiny green flowers in late summer. Leaf tips turn burgundy in the fall. Usually attractive in the garden all winter long. Flowers are good for cutting, fresh or dried. Trim back to the ground in early spring. Clumps are easily divided in spring. Drought tolerant once established.
