Luzula nivea

Snowy Wood Rush

USDA Zone: 4-9

Plant number: 8.255.250

Wood Rushes are grass-like plants that perform well in moist, shady areas. This species forms a tufted mound of hairy, grey-green leaves, bearing stems of snowy white flowers in late spring, which later turn into brown seed heads. Flowers are good for cutting, either fresh or dried once the seed heads form. A nice edging plant, also terrific for mass planting in the shade. These are widely used in European parks and gardens, but deserve to be considered more often here in North America. Clumps are easily divided in spring or early fall. Evergreen in milder winter regions.
