Native to the Northeastern US, this is a low spreading groundcover ideal for shady areas. It forms a carpet of medium-sized green leaves, with trailing stems that root into the ground where they touch. In late spring the plants burst into flower with short upright stems of bright violet-blue snapdragon type flowers. Spreading but not in an invasive way. Suitable as a groundcover over small to medium-sized areas, for pathway edging, in shady or woodland borders and along streams or ponds. Prefers moist soils. Will tolerate a dry site but plants do not spread as quickly. Sometimes known as Creeping Mint, though the plants do not spread underground and do not have a minty fragrance.
