Native to the Eastern USA, this woodland species forms a low carpet of tiny evergreen leaves. Loads of little star-shaped soft-blue flowers are produced in midsummer, each with a tiny yellow eye. Truly charming, this looks beautiful in a shady rock garden, as a small area groundcover or growing between flagstones. Nice in an alpine trough or in a rock wall. Grows best in moist soils rich in organic matter. Stems will root along the ground to form new plants, which can be easily dug up and moved during the spring.
