Dianthus alpinus

Alpine Pinks

USDA Zone: 3-9

Plant number: 1.180.020

A true alpine species of Pinks, this forms a low cushion or bun of bright green grassy leaves. The wheel-shaped flowers are unusually large, resting just above the leaves in late spring, in shades of soft to deep pink or salmon. Flowers are sweetly fragrant. A beautiful addition to the rock garden, gravel scree or trough garden. Must have good drainage, dislikes heavy or soggy soils. A gravel mulch is recommended to help keep the roots cool and to help deter slugs. Plants may be divided after blooming or in early fall, or grown from your own seed. Evergreen.
