Paeonia ‘Smith Family Yellow’
Itoh Hybrid Peony |
USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Plant number: 1.900.760
Itoh Peonies are rare and unusual hybrids between Garden Peonies and Tree Peonies. There are several varieties, all highly sought after by collectors, yet easy to grow and very hardy. This selection forms a midsized upright bush of lush green leaves. The very large and lightly fragrant semi- to fully double blooms feature petals of clear and deep yellow, surrounding a tuft of golden stamens. Excellent strong stems. Peonies seldom need to be divided or moved, but if necessary it should be carried out only in the fall. Flowering is always best in a sunny location. Clean up the dead stems and leaves in the fall to help prevent disease problems. This selection dies right back to ground level for the winter. Much hardier than generally assumed. An American introduction: Donald Smith, 2002.
