Iris foetidissima

Scarlet-berry Iris

USDA Zone: 6-9

Plant number: 1.289.500

Also known as the Stinking Iris, because of the offensive odor given off from the bruised leaves. This is grown for the showy seed heads, with berries that turn scarlet in fall, and are excellent for using in fresh or dried arrangements. The flowers of this plant are small, light purple, and fairly insignificant. Evergreen. Well worth growing for its outstanding autumn display, especially showy in mixed containers or as an edging. A tough plant, tolerant of dry shade once established. Clumps are easily divided in fall or early spring. CAUTION: Harmful if eaten.
